24 Hours with a C-Type Jaguar

by David Lawson

Sometimes I get a bit bogged down with detailing and accuracy with my model making.

So when I got a fibre glass C-type body shell from Mundaring Hobbies in Australia I decided to build the 1953 Le Mans winner in the same time it took for the real car to win the original race.

I set to with my mini-drill cutting out the wheelarches and quickly sanding the worst of the imperfections in the surface prior to a quick lick of Halfords primer and Laurel Green acrylic spray.
I dismantled a Ninco Testa Rossa and chopped up the chassis/lower body with plastic cutters to leave a basic chassis that fitted exactly into the Jaguar. I applied decals and hanpainted the detailing of the car and made up a couple of plastic tubing body mounts.
Even allowing for paint and adhesive curing times the whole process took just 5 hours of actual "worktime" spread over two days and in fact the car was finished and photographed exactly 24 hours after starting.
